Our Kindergarten Day includes...
Morning Meeting/Class Meeting
We meet as a class for greetings, morning message, community building activities, and problem solving.
Number Corner
Children have opportunities to lead and work with the date, count the days of school, work with patterns,
see numbers as sets and many more mathematical concepts.
Reading Workshop
Through mini-lessons the teacher models reading behaviors, children practice reading with books at their level, teachers listen to students read and talk about stories, and each child can share and reflect on what they have learned with their reading partner.
Words Their Way
High frequency words and patterns in words are introduced through age appropriate activities.
Writing Workshop
Through mini-lessons the teacher models writing and uses mentor texts to show writers in action. Children engage in independent writing time, conferences with the teacher and share their thinking with partners.
Gross Motor Development
Outdoor play and physical activity through yoga, mindfulness, singing and dancing are given throughout the day.
Rest Time
Children get cozy with their blanket and pillow and listen to a variety of books and soft music.
Shared Reading
We learn a short poem, nursery rhyme, or song that is practiced and read together. We also read familiar books together and may act out stories as we are reading them.
Math Workshop
Math concepts are presented through large group and small group discoveries. Children are actively involved in learning concepts and math vocabulary is reinforced.
Science/Social Studies
We use a variety of outdoor and indoor activities that include reading concept books, interactive writing/reading and learning stations. Mystery Science is a new resource we are using!
Exploration Time/Choice Time
Children explore ideas and problem solve through play. Areas available during play may include but are not limited to: Art, Reading, Writing, Drawing, Blocks, Dramatic Play, Puzzles, Tinkering and Games.
